Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
