“That was regrettable. It was essentially an interaction with our fans out in front of us,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “There was a large group of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”
Jones additionally emphasized that the signal was entirely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I just put up the wrong finger,” he noted. “The action was accidentally done. This is sincere. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”
League Precedent for Owner Penalties
This is not the first time an league proprietor has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Recent examples include:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at spectators in early 2024.
